Abstract

This article presents a successful implementation of near real-time data ingestion from RDBMS to Snowflake using Change Data Capture (CDC) techniques. It addresses the challenges of traditional data extraction methods, such as performance degradation, increased source system load, data freshness issues, and scalability concerns. The solution leverages Oracle Redo Logs and Striim, a third-party data integration platform, to efficiently capture and propagate changes from source systems to Snowflake. The article details the implementation process, key components, and the significant benefits achieved, including reduced database load, near real-time data availability, improved scalability, enhanced data consistency, and robust failure recovery. The impact on business operations, including improved efficiency, enhanced decision-making, and cost optimization, is also discussed.
